Our Life in Pictures
One of Anna’s favorite places to read is Cape Cod. Unfortunately, it’s rather cramped when everyone is at Nana & Papa’s (13 people in a 3 br house) so she has to find some peace and quiet in the strangest of places.
Spending Labor Day weekend on Cape Cod is a McDonald tradition. So is having a bad back and lingering knee trouble. What better way to annually celebrate a deteriorating body than to have a softball game!!! The game this year was the 5th annual. On my count of those playing, there were 4 bad backs, 6 bum knees and a bad shoulder or 2. That’s current, not past ailments! (Dad’s note: I have neither a bad back nor a messed up knee and I hit the first home run in McDonald Labor Day softball game history. Lefty. And I’m right-handed. Over the fence.)
The rest of the weekend was spent on the beach (with the Gormley Cup!), at an arcade, eating ice cream and a bunch of other stuff we don’t get to do once school starts.
Will’s summer vacation started 2 weeks ago and he’s packed in quite a lot so far.
He graduated from pre-school and celebrated at PF Chang’s (no pictures), went to a Revs game with Dad & Anna, napped, discovered a new sport (lacrosse), went swimming…
Last weekend we did some crabbing with our cousins. The professionals use raw chicken legs as bait but we thought hot dogs would work just fine. Auntie Linda and Uncle Rick also brought a couple of kayaks so mom took each of us out for a spin. We caught 5 crabs and cousin Chris cooked ‘em up while we had a lobster fest at Auntie Linda’s. None of the Kochs were courageous enough to try the crabs and rumor had it cousin Kevin threw up 5 times after eating one. But it was fun!!! And Dad says his lobster was good!
That night Owen decided to wake up at 3am – for the day!! Dad and Mom took shifts with him but eventually Mom put him in the car and went to see the sunrise over Swan River. This knocked him out right away and the sky was so pretty, she forgave him for his antics. They even mustered the energy for a trip to Scargo Lake with some cousins later that day. Mom loves it there and so do we.
Well we really covered it all this weekend. We may not need to go back to the Cape til next summer. It was a long holiday weekend so we went to the beach with our cousins, cooked out, went to the 4th of July parade, watched fireworks from the beach, hit the batting cages & bumper boats (some of us – hint: middle child boys – would not leave the batting cage area to try out the bumper boats), went out for ice cream and hung out with Nana & Papa who even treated us to dinner out (nuthin says Cape Cod like chicken fingers at Seafood Sams). The only thing we didn’t cover is mini-golf – – oh and also fishing…. and the drive-in movie theater…. I guess we’ll have to go back next weekend!!
So long Summer of 2012. We went to the Cape and hit Scargo Lake one more time, played Go Fish with Nana, and ended the weekend with a family softball game and late day swim and pizza on the beach.
First grade starts Thursday!
We went to Scargo Lake on Saturday and Will caught a clam with his bare hands! He was proud.
On Sunday we went to West Dennis beach and had cupcakes with our cousins and tried to surf – if only the waves were a little bigger!!TAGS: Cape Cod
